Vuity® for Presbyopia

Gradual loss of near vision is a natural part of the aging process. While reading glasses, multifocal lenses, and progressive lenses can correct presbyopia, many patients are interested in alternative options that allow them to see more clearly without the hassle of glasses. Vuity® can enhance the vision of patients and decrease their dependency on glasses.

What Causes Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is the gradual loss of near vision that develops as a natural result of the aging process. Unlike farsightedness which is often caused by an improperly shaped cornea, presbyopia occurs when the eye’s lens becomes less flexible. Presbyopia typically occurs after age 40 and continues to progress as you age.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, around 1.8 billion individuals worldwide currently have presbyopia. At this time, there is no way to prevent presbyopia; however, there are treatment options to correct it.

Some common symptoms of presbyopia include:

  • Difficulty seeing objects up close, including text
  • Needing to hold reading material such as letters, newspapers, and your phone at arm’s length
  • Headaches
  • Eye strain

What is Vuity® and How Does it Work?

Vuity® is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop that treats presbyopia. Vuity® works by temporarily reducing the size of the pupil to help patients see better up close, improving their near vision and reducing their dependence on reading glasses.

Patients may administer Vuity® eye drops once daily with one drop per eye. If you are a contact lens wearer, remove your contact lenses before use and wait ten minutes before reinserting them. If you are using other eye drops alongside Vuity®, be sure to administer them at least five minutes apart.

How Can I Benefit From Vuity®?

Vuity® is an excellent option for patients to treat presbyopia. Treatment options such as bifocal lenses, progressive lenses, and reading glasses can be bothersome and lead to hassles such as bent frames, misplaced glasses, and prescription changes. Vuity® works to reduce your dependence on glasses and help you see clearly.

Some of the benefits of Vuity® include:

  • Improved near vision
  • An easier time reading text and seeing objects up close
  • Reduced dependence on reading glasses

What to Expect During Vuity® Treatment

Vuity® is a prescription eye drop that you will use once a day to treat presbyopia. As a completely at-home, non-invasive treatment, Vuity® is a convenient way to improve your vision without discomfort or side effects.

It may take approximately 15 minutes for the eye drops to take effect each time they’re administered, and they may temporarily make things appear out of focus. Within a few minutes of applying the eye drops, your up-close vision should be sharper. This improvement typically lasts for several hours. Since Vuity® constricts your pupil size, avoid using it at night or in low-light situations.

Recovery Timeline for Vuity®

Since Vuity® is an eye drop and not an invasive procedure, there is no recovery time. Patients simply administer the eye drop once a day to improve near vision. Occasionally, Vuity® may cause mild headaches for some patients.

Who Can Have Vuity®?

Vuity® is a treatment option for patients with presbyopia to improve near vision and is not intended to improve vision for patients with farsightedness. Patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in Vuity® are not candidates for treatment. If you are interested in learning more about Vuity®, you can book a consultation with us at Heart of Texas Eye Care to determine your candidacy.
