Botox®

Botox® can be an excellent treatment to enhance your appearance and alleviate certain conditions. At Heart of Texas Eye Care, our experienced and knowledgeable physicians provide Botox® to treat signs of aging such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and other dynamic wrinkles. For some patients, it may also be an effective treatment for migraines or muscle spasms.

Learn more about Botox®

What is Botox® and How Does It Work?

Botox® is the most popular brand of neurotoxin and has been a favorite anti-aging treatment for years, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a rejuvenated look. The results of the injections can last three to six months.

When an experienced practitioner injects Botox® into a treatment area, it temporarily blocks the nerves from sending signals to the small muscles beneath the skin, stopping repetitive muscle movements. Relaxing these facial muscles smooths out dynamic wrinkles and helps prevent new ones from forming.

Botox® Cosmetic

Botox® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved non-surgical treatment option that is used to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox® is a brand of neuromodulator made from botulinum toxin, a protein obtained from bacteria.

Botox® can treat the following cosmetic concerns:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Furrowed brows

Medical Uses for Botox®

Though it’s most commonly known for its aesthetic benefits, Botox® has many medical uses. Medical Botox® can treat various conditions, from hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) to muscle spasms and lazy eye. At Heart of Texas Eye Care, we may use Botox® to treat:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Eyelid spasms (blepharospasms)
  • Hemifacial spasms

How Can I Benefit From Botox®?

Botox® has provided countless patients with a wide array of benefits. Botox® is an excellent minimally-invasive choice for facial rejuvenation and can treat a variety of concerns without downtime or inconvenience.

Some of the cosmetic benefits of Botox® include:

  • Smoothed fine lines and wrinkles
  • Prevent new fine lines and wrinkles from forming
  • A rejuvenated appearance without downtime
  • Results last up to six months and often improve with continued treatments

What to Expect During Botox® Treatments

During your appointment, one of our staff will cleanse the area where you will be receiving Botox®. Once you are ready for treatment, your practitioner will skillfully inject multiple units of Botox® in the treatment area to achieve your desired results. The needle is very thin, and most patients only experience minimal discomfort during the injections. The process takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the site you are treating.

A treatment using Botox® medically will be very similar to cosmetic injections. Typically, Botox® will be injected in the temples or eye area to treat headaches or muscle spasms. After your injections, you’ll be able to resume your regular activities. Most people start seeing their results within a few days, but Botox® can take up to two weeks to take effect.

Recovery Timeline for Botox®

Though there is little to no downtime after Botox®, there are a few steps you can take to ensure optimal results. You should avoid touching or rubbing the treatment area for at least 24 hours after application. After Botox®, it is crucial that you avoid bending over or lying down for the first four hours after treatment. This is to prevent Botox® from spreading outside the treatment area.

It is best to avoid activities such as exercise and applying makeup for the first 24 hours after your treatment. Minor swelling and redness after Botox® is normal and should subside after a day. You can gently apply an ice pack to the treatment area to help reduce these symptoms.

Who Can Have Botox®?

Botox® can be an excellent treatment option for patients who wish to address common aging concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles. We may also recommend Botox® for certain medical concerns, such as eyelid spasms and migraines. Patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in Botox®, have an infection in the planned treatment site, have certain neuromuscular conditions, or are pregnant may not be candidates for Botox®.

For younger patients, Botox® Cosmetic can also be an effective way to delay the onset of lines and wrinkles. Many patients start using Botox® in their 20s or 30s. If you would like to learn more about your candidacy with Botox®, you can book a consultation at Heart of Texas Eye Care today.
